This descriptive study aimed to study the needs of nursing students during practice in the intensive care unit. The participants of the study were 126 sophomore-nursing students in Adult and Geriatric Nursing Practicum II studying at Ratchathani University Udonthani campus. The tool used in this study were: 1) personal data 2) the need of nursing practice in the intensive care unit questionnaire consisting of three domain including nursing skill, environmental and clinical teachers/preceptor. Data were statistically analyzed by using descriptive statistics including percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results showed that while the nursing practice on the intensive care unit ranking from the highest to lowest level were need of nursing skill, clinical teachers/preceptor and environmental. The highest ranked needs five sub - item were care and use the ventilator, being smiling, basic EKG readings, advanced cardiovascular life support and the fair. The lowest ranked needs five sub–item were atmosphere is conducive to nursing practice, privacy for conference, Period of time to pre-post conference, assignments in nursing practice and instruments and medical equipment are modern and. This study suggests that a guide nursing education to develop and improve teaching and learning in the course of Adult and Geriatric Nursing Practicum II to accommodate the needs of students, and achieve better. |
