This descriptive research aims to study the alcohol consumption of grandparents raising the children under 5 years old ones living in a district in Khon Kaen province. Subjects of 328 persons were chosen from families with children under five years old by stratified sampling. The questionnaires included demographic data and The Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT). The variables analyzed by using frequency and percentage.
Results found that among subjects with 328 people, 38.1% of them were alcoholic grandparents, the percentages of low-risk, hazardous, harmful, and high-risk alcohol consumption pattern were 29.3 %, 4.0%, 3.4%, and 1.5%, respectively. And 61.9% were non-alcoholic grandparents.
In addition, found that the sample were the alcoholic primary caregivers 18.9%. And there were 33.8% of other family members drinking alcohol.
Therefore, in order to provide good quality of life for the children, should be taken to maintain proper parenting behaviors and provide appropriate guidance.
